From your first capture to a clearer day.
A practical guide to the current desktop application. Explore the browser demo alongside it, using fictional examples.
Getting started
TaskLens turns captured information into editable tasks, events and deadlines. Begin in Inbox, review the suggestions and confirm what you want to keep. No TaskLens account is required. The application is a pre-release candidate.

Check Download and Platforms for current release availability before choosing a package. No public installer is currently verified. Developers can follow the repository’s source-build instructions; a browser development run is not native inference.
Check download availability →Understanding the workspace
Inbox is your capture space. Today includes confirmed items due today and overdue items. Upcoming groups confirmed items from today onward. All Tasks includes every item, with type filters. Use the sidebar control to collapse navigation to an icon rail.
Screenshot capture
In the installed app, browse, paste or drop a PNG, JPG, JPEG or WEBP image up to 10 MB into Inbox. TaskLens reads text locally, then uses the selected extraction provider. Review the result before saving. The website uses selectable fictional announcements instead of uploading files.
Voice capture and audio import
Use the microphone control in Inbox to begin recording and Done recording to finish, or Import audio for a supported file. Transcription runs locally with bundled Whisper. Cancel capture stops the current job. Check Settings for voice readiness. The browser demo uses a prewritten transcript and never activates your microphone.
Text capture
Choose Capture text in the Voice & Text card, enter information and start extraction. Only one capture job runs at a time. Switching a busy capture offers cancellation rather than silently discarding your work.
Local AI setup and readiness
Local AI is the default. Prepared desktop packages include OCR, Whisper and Qwen resources; normal installed use does not automatically download models. Settings shows validation and runtime readiness. If resources fail validation, use the offered retry or repair guidance. Manual task editing remains available.
Optional Groq Cloud
Open Settings → AI Processing → Groq connection, connect your own key and verify it in the native app. Read and accept the disclosure before selecting Cloud. Connecting a key alone does not authorize source transmission. Groq receives recognized or typed text, source-unit identifiers and extraction context; original images and audio stay local. Selecting Local AI stops cloud work.

Check the title, date, time, arrival time, location and requirements. Unknown values stay unknown. Answer open questions or edit fields directly. A suggested answer is not proof of correctness. Preserve a draft in Needs Review when you are not ready to confirm.
Source Trace and confidence
Use a field’s Source action to inspect its cited screenshot region, source text or timestamped transcript. Confirmed, Inferred and Needs review describe review confidence, not a numerical guarantee. Compare the suggested value with the original before accepting it.
Confirming and saving
Confirm & Save accepts the reviewed values and waits for storage success. A multiple-item extraction advances through its remaining items. Save drafts & finish retains unfinished items in Needs Review. A reminder warning is separate from whether the task itself saved.
Today and Upcoming
Today brings overdue confirmed items and today’s plan together. Upcoming groups dated confirmed actions from today forward. An undated item stays in All Tasks rather than receiving an invented calendar date.
Calendar
Use the month arrows to move through the calendar and Today to return. Select a date to inspect its items. Completed items retain their completed appearance; unreviewed drafts are kept out of the confirmed calendar.
Completed and Needs Review
Mark an item complete from its row and find it in Completed. Restore it when you need to continue. Needs Review gathers unfinished reviews; confirming an item removes it from that list.
Search and keyboard shortcuts
Click Search your workspace or press Ctrl/Cmd K. Type part of a title, location, note or requirement. Up and Down select results, Enter opens a result and Escape closes search. Ctrl+Shift+Space toggles the desktop sidebar outside modal dialogs. The browser demo limits its shortcuts to the focused workspace.
Reminders and notification activation
Configure reminders while editing an action, then separately activate desktop delivery in Settings. Review the activation preview and operating-system permissions. Test delivery on your platform. OS submission does not prove a visible banner; missed schedules and recovery status appear in Settings. Background operation is opt-in and automatic startup is unfinished.
Data export and privacy
The desktop Settings data section exports a JSON backup. Tasks, source previews, transcripts and exports are not encrypted. Keep backups in trusted storage. Backup import and cloud sync are not available. The website demo uses memory only: reload or Reset demo removes its changes.
Troubleshooting
For missing local resources, inspect readiness in Settings and use repair guidance. For cloud disconnection, keep the source and intentionally retry or reactivate Cloud; TaskLens does not silently resubmit it elsewhere. For extraction mistakes, edit the result or create a manual item. Report sanitized steps and platform details without credentials or personal captures.
